Citrus Park Drive Extension

Hillsborough County is proposing to extend Citrus Park Drive in northwest Hillsborough County from Countryway Boulevard to Sheldon Road, a distance of about 2.82 miles. The extension is a new four-lane divided urban roadway with bicycle lanes and sidewalks that connects two existing segments of Citrus Park Drive.

PB Americas, the engineering consultant for Hillsborough County Public Works, performed a Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study in 2006 and 2007. The comprehensive study evaluated alignment alternatives, typical section alternatives, intersection improvements at Countryway Boulevard and Sheldon Road, and a multi-purpose underpass or overpass. The project is currently in the design phase and is identified in the County's Capital Improvement Program as a vital roadway project for improving the northwest County transportation network.

The Citrus Park Drive Extension will provide many benefits to motorists and residents in northwest Hillsborough County by:

  • Creating a much needed east-west link between Countryway Boulevard and Sheldon Road;

  • Providing a connection to the Citrus Park shopping areas and Veteran's Expressway;

  • Reducing congestion on adjacent roadways;

  • Ensuring consistency with the Hillsborough County Long Range Transportation Plan;

  • Providing an acceptable level of service on area roadways;

  • Facilitating the Northwest Recreational Corridor Plan; and

  • Providing access to the proposed park facilities.
